This is a list of items you should be able to do with the G1000 NXi in order to use it for VFR flight.
The G1000 is a complex system that incorporates numerous capabilities. As a result, this is a long list.
This is only a tiny fraction of the features it has, but these items can be considered a baseline for being able
to use the system safely. Although there are a large number of resources for the G1000 available, be aware that
the details of operation vary between different aircraft models and software versions.
Components
- Explain the concept of LRUs
- Describe the main LRUs in the system:
- What does each one do?
- What is it connected to?
- What happens if it fails?
- Show how to find the status of each LRUs on the MFD
- Explain the essential bus:
- What is it?
- What is connected to it?
Standby Instruments
- List the standby instruments that are installed
- Determine which standby instruments are needed for VFR flight
- Determine whether you can takeoff with the standby instruments instead of the PFD
- Describe the pre-flight and pre-takeoff actions for the standby instruments
- Show the location of the standby vacuum gauge
Databases
- Determine the currency of the databases during startup
- Determine the currency of the databases *after* startup
- Explain which, if any, databases much be current in order to fly (show where it says this)
- Describe the risks of flying with expired databases
